On April 19 2013, in Astana there was conducted a final conference on energy efficiency improving in municipal heat and hot water supply, what has finalized an implementation of a joint project of UN Development Programme and the Government of Kazakhstan “Removing barriers to energy efficiency in municipal heat and hot water supply”, financed with the support of the Global Environmental Facility.

International partner conference “Energy saving in HPU sphere – basis for “green” economy of Kazakhstan” was conducted in Astana city. Event organizers – ALE “National chamber of HPU Kazakhstan ” and UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan.
“Removing barriers to energy efficiency in municipal heat and hot water supply” UNDP/GEF project was presented on briefing of ALE “Kazakhstan Association of hi-tech, energy efficient and innovative companies” (KAHTEEIC) on activity results for 2012.
With joint efforts of three UNDP/GEF projects, there was held information lecture on theme “Energy saving and energy audit”. Workshop was organized for heads of facilities administration of the RK Parliament. The listeners were presented information on up to date heat management systems, their advantages, and successful experience of old equipment replacement on several objects. According to project partner A.Yentin, heat energy saving accounted for 10-30% thanks to modern equipment installation that irrevocably affected comfortable living, utility payments and quantity of GHGs emissions. Currently, in cooperation with international partners from Denmark and Germany there has been established an assembly of advanced block type heating points.
The market of energy conservation and energy efficiency has just emerged in our country, but the need for installation of relevant equipment and services has been long over due.
Currently, Kazakhstan is paying special attention to energy saving and energy efficiency issues in all economy sectors, according to the Review of International Experience in Development of Energy efficiency Performance Contracts (EEPCs) prepared for the United Nations Development Program/Global Environmental Facility Project by the international expert Bernard Jamet, Econoler, Canada.
The basic consumer of municipal heating services in Kazakhstan is residential sector that accounts for about 40% of supplied energy.
