The International Conference "Transition to Low-carbon Urban Development: Global Trends and Prospects for Kazakhstan and Central Asia" is going to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan on November 5-6, 2015.
The five-year joint UNDP - Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan project, financed by GEF "Sustainable cities for low-carbon practices of urban development" started in 2015. This project is aimed at developing sufficient capacity and capability for comprehensive planning of activities and specific projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in urban infrastructure as well as attracting investments. The project is primarily focused on such urban sectors as housing and utilities, district heating, public transport and waste management.
At the International Conference sustainable urban development practices and reports on the opportunities and prospects of low-carbon urban development in Kazakhstan and Central Asia region will be presented and up-coming events in the regions of Kazakhstan will be announced.
The conference is going to accept about 150-200 participants. Among them there are representatives of the following fields: government authorities of the country, municipalities of foreign countries, organizations supporting low-carbon urban development, development banks, second-tier banks of Kazakhstan, engineering and construction companies, public organizations as well as international and local experts in the field of ecology, climate change, housing services and utilities, construction, transport, waste management
